Geotechnical
Reinforced Soil Structures
Reinforced soil structures (reinforced soil walls and reinforced soil slopes) are mechanically stabilized earth retaining systems that are technically proven and a cost effective alternative to the conventional concrete walls especially for the approach embankment to the bridges/flyovers. It is a high performance mechanically stabilized earth wall system comprising the following key components:
- Galvanized steel strips as main reinforcement
- Tie strips embedded in concrete panel for connection
- Anchor blocks / angles for better pull out resistance
- Precast RCC discrete panels
Geogrid Reinforced Soil Wall System

- Revetments / Launching Aprons
- Dykes
- Groynes
- Shore Protection
Concept:
- Sea Shore

System:
- Sand filled Geotextile Tubes
- Stone filled Polymer Rope Gabions
- Sand filled Geotextile Bags / Containers / Mattresses
- Geotextile Bag filled Gabions
- Woven Geotextile - Allows water to pass, retains soil and prevents erosion.
Geotextile Tubes:
- Geotextiles tubes are flexible long tubes made of suitable geotextile of dimensions in the range of 1 to 5 m diameter and 20 to 40 m length. The tube is manufactured from high strength woven geotextile which is durable, UV resistant and delivers high performance.
- Polymer rope gabions are prefabricated collapsible sausages, which are fabricated by a unique process in which the ropes are woven into a continuous net with square apertures of 100 and 150 mm. These nets are used to form cages of desired sizes and are filled with boulders.
- Manufactured from polypropylene (PP) ropes of diameter ranging from 9 to 16 mm, adequately stabilized for degradation against ultraviolet radiation
- Polymer rope gabions are ideally suited for use as an armor layer in resisting all erodible effects of waves.
- Boulder fill can be done in-situ or gabions can be prefilled and installed in place with the help of crane.
Geotextile Bags
Geotextile bags are small volume containers manufactured from high strength woven geotextiles to form a range of shapes such as pillow-shaped, box-shaped, etc., depending on the required application. Sand mattresses are flat mattresses made up of high strength woven geotextiles, which are filled with sand. They are used for scour protection and as filter material in coastal protection and river training structures.
Applications:
- Erosion control sea walls
- Artificial reefs
- Revetments
- Flood protection
- Breakwaters
- Beach restoration
- Dykes
- Groynes
Advantages:
- Proven Method for
- Protecting shorelines
- Rebuilding beaches
- Reclaiming land
- River bank protection
- Sea / River Sand as fill material – hence better method for places with less stone availability
- Durable
- Easy to install
- Highly flexible
- Cost effective
Rockfall Protection
Rockfall is an inherent hazard of mountainous terrains, which jeopardizes life and property and threatens the smooth operations of traffic lines especially during monsoons. We offer three systems of Rockfall protection which can be tailor made to suit the site conditions:
- Galvanized Steel Wire Ropenet (GSWR)
- GSWR along with Chain Link Mesh / Hexagonal Double Twisted Wire Mesh
- Low Energy Rockfall Barriers
- Galvanized Steel Wire Ropenet (GSWR) is a patented system jointly developed by Lokal GROUP.
- Is made of high strength galvanized steel wire GSWR ropes having minimum breaking strength of 4.5 t.
- The aperture size of GSWR can be varied from 300 mm to 600 mm with tensile strength of ropenet varying from 6.7 t to 12.5 t.
Gabion Gravity Retaining Walls
Steel Gabions:
- Steel wire Gabions are factory manufactured / fabricated flexible wire mesh baskets.
- Factory fabricated boxes, with diaphragms at 1m c/c.
- Supplied at site in collapsible form
- Filled with stones to form variety of monolithic structures
Gabion boxes -1 m height, Gabion mattresses - 0.17 m to 0.6 m thick.
Double twisted hexagonal mesh:
- Double Twist – Continuous pairs of wire mechanically twisted (three one half turns)
- Double Twist Mesh – Thicker dia. wire at the edges called “Selvedge / Edge Wire”
Properties of the wire:
- Soft annealed, low carbon content mild steel provided with heavy coating of Zinc as per EN 10244-2 / ASTM A 641
- In aggressive environments, 0.5 mm thick PVC Coating is also provided.
- PVC coating is UV stabilised and complies with ASTM A 975.
Gabions for Retaining walls / Mass gravity walls / Landslide mitigation projects:
- Gabion retaining walls are mass gravity retaining structures, constructed with boulder filled Gabion boxes to retain the soil mass laterally.
- Using a lacing technique, Gabions are tied to adjacent Gabions to form a monolithic structure throughout the wall
Advantages:
- Durability
- Strength
- Flexibility
- Permeability
- Monolithicity
- Eco-friendliness
- Cost effectiveness
Geosynthetic lining systems consist of either geomembrane or a combination of other geosynthetics like geosynthetic clay liner, which will arrest / prevent seepage & prevent contamination of aquifers.
Applications:
A. Hydraulic structures- Canals
- Power channels
- Ponds
- Industrial reservoirs
- Hazardous waste landfills
- High volume waste disposal facilities (ashdykes, red mud pond, gypsum disposal sites)
- Municipal solid waste landfills
- Landfill capping
C. Industrial linings
- Effluent pond/ waste water ponds
- Waste pits
- Sludge disposal pits
- Oil tank pads
Advantages:
- Geomembrane eliminates the water loss through seepage.
- Geomembrane is highly flexible to withstand stresses due to any differential settlements, thermal stresses, high hydraulic pressures, etc.
- Improves canal hydraulics, equity and reliability of water distribution
- In canals, it reduces water logging and salining of the adjoining land.
- Geosynthetics like geosynthetic clay liner can replace the clay materials.
